SimpleWall: The Simple Tool to Block Applications from Using the Internet with One Click

TinyWallTinyWall takes a different approach from traditional Firewalls. It does not display popups that "urge users to allow". In fact, it will not notify you of any blocked action at all.Instead of showing popups, TinyWall makes it easy to whitelist or unblock applications by different means. For example, you can just initiate whitelisting by a hotkey, then click on a window that you want to allow. Or, you can select an application from the list of running processes.

Most importantly, with the no-popup approach, the user will only notice that a program has been denied internet access when he can't use it anymore. Consequently, users will only unblock applications that they actually need and none more, which is optimal from a security standpoint.

SimpleWall is a simple tool to block applications from using the Internet

This is a tool to manage the native firewall from Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Server 2016, Server 2012. Windows Firewall Control offers four filtering modes which can be switched with just a mouse click:High Filtering - All outbound and inbound connections are blocked. This profile blocks all attempts to connect to and from your computer.

Simplewall tool presents a very easy and effective way to configure the Windows filtering platform and decide which applications and services will run on your computer at launch and which ones you want to block.

Comodo is a popular security product and a Leader in the Firewall category on G2. It helps verify all inbound and outbound activity on the network, stealthing ports against hackers and blocking malicious software from corrupting and distributing data. Comodo allows users to determine which applications are allowed to connect to the web, with immediate alerts in the event of suspicious activity.

As a result, it allows incoming and outgoing traffic that is based on the security policies of the firewall and will block unauthorized traffic, and by using this method, it strengthens the security of the computer and protects your private network from threats.

During the initial setup, Ashampoo FireWall allows the user to choose the programs that should be blocked from using the network and the programs that are allowed to be used through the wizard in Easy Mode or Expert Mode.

Simplewall is one of the simplest and most powerful free firewall examples for Windows versions in maintaining security, which is used to configure Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) on your computer. Using WFP as a development technology, Simplewall implements a platform for creating network filter programs by including system services and a set of APIs. By using Simplewall software, you can control the access of programs to the Internet and block or allow their access to the Internet.

In addition to controlling incoming connections to your computer, Mcafee Firewall also monitors network traffic and allows only safe connections to the Internet. Mcafee Firewall prevents hackers from accessing your home network by managing incoming connections from your system. You can block or allow incoming connections using Mcafee Firewall. Also, using Net Guard technology prevents communication with unsafe and suspicious sites and thus improves the security of your entire network and system.

NetGuard is one of the best firewall apps that offers advanced features such as network statistics, custom notifications, and rules backup. NetGuard uses a local VPN connection to filter your internet traffic and allows you to block any app from accessing the internet via Wi-Fi or data.

Silent mode allows all connections, and you can block individual connections as required. If you're a beginner, we recommend selecting silent mode. Warn mode is to check which apps are silently connecting to an unsecured server. After selecting warn mode, the firewall will block all apps and services from connecting to the internet. Then, you can manually allow apps from the quick settings panel or in the app.

To set up a private DNS server, go to Settings and select Network. Now, tap Select Provider. Each DNS server serves a different purpose; for example, if you want to block ads on the internet, select AdGuard DNS from the list and restart the app once.

simplewall as an alternative for filters firewalls default of Windows, allows you to control and restrict the applications and processes access the Internet. simplewall allows you to override the default settings of the Windows Filtering Platform (offers APIS and services required for the application security network to filter network data) and install the new filter block the processes be selected, thereby protecting the computer from malicious software.

Connectify gets its IP address from the "Internet to Share" and then uses NAT to create private IP's for the client devices that it gives out using DHCP. Your VPN can be a suspect as well. Does your VPN have an Internet Kill Switch? That's a feature that makes sure no packets can go out anywhere but over the VPN. I can certainly imagine that blocking us completely. If you disconnect from your VPN and make sure the internet works without it, can you set the real internet as "Internet to Share" and see if Connectify works then?

Keep in mind, simplewall is not a control UI over Windows Firewall, and does not interact in any level with Windows Firewall. It works over Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) which is a set of API and system services that provide a platform for creating network filtering applications. Windows Filtering Platform is a development technology and not a firewall itself, but simplewall is the tool that uses this technology.

simplewall is a simple, tiny (less then 1 MB) yet powerful independent firewall program used to configure Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) for monitoring and configuring all network activities on your computer. It is free, open-source and portable, was developed by henrypp (Henry++, Evgeny Kotov) from Kazakhstan in 2016, using C language.

It is worth emphasizing that simplewall is not a control UI over Windows Firewall like Firewall App Blocker or Windows Firewall Control, and does not interact in any level with Windows Firewall. It works over Windows Filtering Platform, which is a set of API and system services that provide a platform for creating network filtering applications. In other words, WFP is a development technology and not a firewall program, making simplewall more powerful than firewall.

In the Internet era, all kinds of malware is becoming more and more rampant, and can secretly connect to the Internet at any time and perform some malicious network activities (e.g. collecting and uploading user data, launching cyber attacks), with the result that both system and network become significantly lagged. So disabling the network access for tools that do not need Internet connection can be a permanent solution. In this case, simplewall can help you easily monitor and control the network behavior of any program on your computer.

This program is a simple tool to configure Windows Filtering Platform (WFP), which can configure network activity on your computer. It provides simple configuration, adware & telemetry blocking.

To summarize, what I would like to achieve is the following ---- My computer with Windows 7/10 installed is connected to the internet, but I never want the file "xyz" to ever leave my computer onto the internet or a server, and my question is whether in Windows Firewall I can specific this "xyz'" file such that when the firewall detects that it is leaving my computer onto the internet/network/server, then it will block it. So, it's not about the Firewall preventing a packet from leaving my computer nor the Firewall blocking a program from connecting to the internet. It's about the Fireall blocking a specific file from leaving my computer. And if Windows Firewall is not capable of doing so, are they are other solutions or softwares/firewall on the market that can achieve the goal?

You said "But you can't prevent you from doing it" and I am a little confused. Suppose a program or a tool is capable of preventing a specific file from leaving my computer onto the internet or a server. In this case, isn't it true that even if I attempt to upload the specific file onto the internet/server by myself, the program/tool will block the file from leaving my computer anyway? (because the program will only recognize the file that is to be blocked but not the person who does it).

In that Example 2, if existing Windows Firewall or a program/tool is capable of blocking the specific file from leaving my computer onto the internet or a server, then it's ideal. Suppose the program vendor in Example 2 is trying to upload that specific file from my computer to their server, or if I accidentally use the upload function of that program to upload the specific file, then the tool or firewall will detect and block it from leaving my computer.

To summarize, my need is quite specific, e.g., there is a project file which I named "XYZ" and the renaming property of the file is locked and no one can modify the file name. I just need to specify this "XYZ" file in the DLP tool and whenever it detects that this file with name "XYZ" is going outbound/leaving the computer (as in all 3 scenarios described in the opening post of the thread), then it will block it. Blocking files going outbound onto the internet/a server this way seems straightforward enough (by using the file names to determine as to which files to block) and if there is a relatively simple DLP tool out there that serves this specific need it would be great.

As explained above, in my case the requirement is specific and to me it seems that a file can easily be blocked if a firewall/DLP tool uses the "file name" to determine whether it should be blocked from going outbound or not. I am a bit suprised to know that the existing Windows Firewall or a relatively DLP tool does not cater this specific need at the moment. Or perhaps I am a bit naive about this specific need in the DLP scope and the way that it works might not be as straightfoward as it seems. 2ff7e9595c
